Free Medical Expense Log Starter
Medical costs arrive in pieces: a copay at the desk, a bill weeks later, an EOB that says the plan paid part of it, a pharmacy receipt in a coat pocket. By the end of the year nobody in the house can say what it all actually cost. This free starter is one spreadsheet tab: one row per bill, EOB or receipt, with what was billed, what the plan paid and your share, and a Net cost to you column that subtracts anything paid back. A Totals block beside the log adds it all up for the household, by person and by category. It opens on a fictional worked example (52 expenses from a three-person household over one year) so you can see it working. To start your own, type your household's names over the example names in the By person slots and delete the example entries.

What it does
- Logs one row per expense: date, person, category, provider, description, billed, plan paid, your share, how you paid, and anything reimbursed.
- Works out your net cost on every row the moment you type it: your share, minus anything paid back.
- Totals billed, plan paid, your share, reimbursed and net cost for the whole household, for each person, and for each of 31 categories, from doctor visits to glasses and prescriptions.
- Has drop-downs for person, category and how you paid, so the totals stay clean. Type your household's names once, beside the log, and the Person drop-down follows.
- Opens pre-filled with 52 example expenses from a fictional household, with 150 rows ready in all, plus a 3-page how-to guide (PDF).
- Opens in Excel and LibreOffice, or import it to Google Sheets: no macros, no signup, and nothing saved anywhere but your own copy.
