Etsy SEO Tool - Excel & Google Sheets

Etsy gives you thirteen tags. This finds out how many are doing different work — and scores every one against the shops you actually compete with.

What you'll love

  • Listing tracking - one row per Etsy listing, with your titles, tags, prices, inventory, and listing age
  • Competitive analysis - benchmark against the shops you choose, with views and reviews converted to a per-month figure so an old listing doesn't flatter itself against a new one
  • SEO scoring - every tag scored on search demand against competition, plus bonuses for appearing in your title and description
  • Duplicated Words - see how many of your 13 tag slots are spent repeating a word you already used
  • Works the same in Excel (Windows and Mac), Google Sheets, and LibreOffice - every formula uses functions all three share
  • Etsy research services are optional - the marked columns are easier to fill with one, and everything else scores without it

Etsy gives you thirteen tags. The Etsy SEO Tool answers the question most sellers never ask: how many of those thirteen are actually doing different work?

The thirteen-slot problem

In the example shop, one listing puts the word “slippers” into nine of its thirteen tags — bridesmaid slippers, mama slippers, spa slippers, fuzzy slippers. That is not thirteen chances to be found; it is nine tags crowding one idea while four do the rest of the work. Thirty words across those tags, only nineteen of them different — a unique ratio of 0.63.

Duplicated Words and Unique Ratio put a number on it, listing by listing, so you can see the slots you are spending twice.

How a tag is scored

Every tag gets a Base Score from search demand against competition — how many people look for it, divided by how many listings chase it, times a thousand. On top of that it earns a bonus where your title backs it up, a smaller one for your description, and a bonus for each word beyond two. A single-word tag takes a penalty: it is competing against the whole marketplace.

Those bonuses and penalties live on the Setup tab, with the suggested value printed beside each one, so you can retune the model and watch the scores move. The Base Score is the part that wants data from an Etsy research service; without it, a tag still scores on everything else.

Scored against the field, not in a vacuum

Add the tags of the listings you compete with on Competitor Tags and they are scored the same way — so your Product SEO Score sits next to theirs and reads Ahead of the field or Behind — improve tags. In the example, the slippers score 3,586 against 1,117 for their matched competitors.

What it deliberately doesn’t do

This tier does the tags. It does not work out Etsy’s fees or your profit — that is the Etsy Pricing Tool. It does not import your Etsy statement — that is the Etsy Financial Tool. If you want the tracking without the scoring, the Etsy Product Tool is the cheaper start. All four live together in the Etsy Seller Toolkit.

Excel or Google Sheets, your choice

It runs the same way in Excel on Windows, Excel on a Mac, Google Sheets, and LibreOffice — every formula uses functions all of them share. The download includes a one-click link to your own native Google Sheet copy: choose Make a copy and the whole workbook lands in your Drive, formulas and all. Not a lossy import of a spreadsheet file — a real Sheet.

Nothing is locked. The formulas are visible, the settings are exposed, and there is no subscription. Own it, don’t rent it.

Want to try the tag engine first? The free Etsy Fee & Tag Checker runs it on a single listing — no signup.

Ardent Workshop is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Etsy, Inc. Figures shown come from a fictional example shop and are illustrative — nothing here is tax, accounting, or financial advice.

The SEO scoring is Ardent Workshop’s own model for ranking your listings against each other and against the shops you track. It is not Etsy’s ranking algorithm, which is not public, and a high score here is not a promise of placement there.

Why a workbook

Most tools force a choice between a blank spreadsheet you build from scratch and a monthly app that's overkill. Ardent Workshop is the rung in between — structure you own.

  1. Blank spreadsheet

Free, but you build and maintain every formula, tab and layout yourself.

    • Free
    • Infinite setup
    • No structure
  2. You are here

    Ardent Workshop

Owned, structured, connected workbooks — a one-time price, yours to keep.

    • One-time price
    • Structured & connected
    • Yours to own
  3. Generic SaaS app

Powerful, but overkill, rented and locked-in — built for someone bigger than you.

    • Monthly rent
    • Overkill
    • Lock-in

Running an operation that's genuinely outgrown the file? Ardent Seller isn't the generic SaaS app this ladder warns about — it's maker-first software built by the same workshop: your data stays yours, you can start free or pay as you go with no subscription required, and it's sized for your operation, not someone bigger. The platform to graduate to when a spreadsheet honestly can't keep up.
