Etsy Fee & Tag Checker
Two things quietly cost Etsy sellers money, and neither is obvious. The first is that Etsy's transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge, not just the item — so charging $5.00 for postage that costs you $4.10 does not leave you ninety cents. The second is that your 13 tags are not 13 chances to be found if nine of them repeat the same word. What it does
- Works out what one sale leaves you after Etsy's listing, transaction, and payment processing fees (US rates — they differ by country) — including the fee charged on the shipping you collect, the part sellers most often forget is fee-bearing.
- Splits each of your 13 tags into its words (up to five) and counts how many you have already used on another tag, then gives you a unique ratio: distinct words divided by total words.
- Flags any tag over Etsy's 20-character cap, and says in words whether your margin is healthy, thin, or losing money.
- Opens on a worked example — a $24.00 listing and a set of 13 tags already scored — so you can see both halves working before you type anything of your own.
