Free One-Page Session Prep Sheet

Most game-master printables hand you a nicely ruled form and wish you luck. The hard half is knowing what to put in the boxes at nine o'clock on a weeknight. This free sheet has five boxes and an order to fill them in, built on one idea — prep situations, not plots — so the night still works when the party goes somewhere you did not prepare. It comes shown filled in first, and the dangling-threads page prints on the back.

What it does

  • Gives you the five boxes that matter and the order to fill them in: what happens anyway this week, three likely scenes, a strong start, the secret they can learn tonight, and two rolls with the price of failing already decided.
  • Comes shown filled in for an invented campaign, so you can see the level of detail before you pick up a pen — “the villain continues his plan” against “the levy finish moving the crates on Thursday night, and after that the evidence is gone”.
  • Prints the Dangling Threads page on the back — the ten seconds in pencil, mid-session, that stops a long campaign quietly contradicting itself.
  • Includes one of the kit's twenty improv tables — a d20 of what a person wants from the party — so you can see what they read like.
  • System-neutral: no rules, no statistics, and nothing drawn from any published game or setting, so it works with whatever your group already plays.
  • Printable PDF, US Letter, print at 100% — nothing to sign up for, nothing saved anywhere but your own copy.

Want the other eight sheets — and the other nineteen tables?

This is two sheets of ten and one table of twenty. The full kit adds the party and character reference (including the column nobody else puts on it — what each player came for), a session-zero questionnaire, a lines-and-veils sheet built to be filled in alone and collected face down, the campaign arc and its clock, a faction board that gets one move a week, a loot, rewards and downtime log, a recap page written to be read aloud, and a between-sessions checklist with a ten-minute fallback. Plus 20 improv tables with 472 entries, NPC, location and initiative cards already imposed with cut marks, and every one of the ten sheets shown filled in.

A one-time purchase you print as often as your table needs — paper that works in somebody's basement with no signal, and is still yours in five years.

A game master's working sheet — your campaign, organized on paper. System-neutral by design: it contains no rules, statistics, or setting material from any published game, and it is not affiliated with, licensed by, or endorsed by any game publisher. The worked example is invented. Free to use; please don't resell or redistribute.
